HEALTHCARE DATA ANALYST
GENERAL FUNCTION: This position will facilitate development and automation of standard reports that assist in making business decisions and strategic planning as it relates to healthcare data for the Bank’s health care plans. Incumbents will track industry trends, develop internal models and evaluation programs that will be utilized to make critical decisions for the healthcare programs offered by the company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uses technical training, skills and independent judgment to create reports following a rational approach for accessing information and improving the quality and usability of end user data.
- Utilizes data to make critical decisions regarding the company’s healthcare expenses, future costs, and budget planning.
- Develops consistent business rules, data and reporting standards and overseeing the delivery of accurate, timely and complete data and management information/data (membership, clinical and utilization).
- Coordinates efforts to document, respond, quantify and follow-up on all quality management and process improvement projects.
- Conducts ad hoc analysis to identify improvement opportunities and analysis for management.
- Evaluates and monitors the results of healthcare programs.
- Working in collaboration with various internal teams to identify process changes and enhancements to healthcare programs.
- Independently develops automated control reports and tools.
- Independently analyzes and summarizes large amounts of data.
- Individuals in this position will bring advanced skills in data analytics and project management to the Fifth Third Bank organization.
- Incumbents will review and ensure data integrity and appropriate sources of data.
- The Healthcare Data Analyst provides direct support for performance measurement and improvement activities including the design, collection, preparation and presentation of data.
- This position will be part of a team who design and implement benefit plan design and reporting solutions. They may act as consultants and/or team leads, assigned on a full time basis to high priority, complex capability initiatives.
- They provide data and guidance to the Process Owners when necessary to facilitate the adoption of process changes and will use financial, utilization, and membership data across departments to improve benefit plan design and processes.
- Will be the analytical resource for Fifth Third Bank’s Benefit Department including creating data and analytic requirement, strategy and supporting project management and leadership
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Limited direct supervisory responsibilities. However, may be responsible for providing employees timely, candid and constructive performance feedback; developing employees to their fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth; developing the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning; recognizing and rewarding employees for accomplishments.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Statistics or other quantitative field.
- Extensive health care industry experience preferred.
- Ability to self identify projects and create meaningful reports while working independently.
- Skills in data collection, analytics, problem solving, statistics and reporting.
- Ability to organize and troubleshoot efficiently and effectively.
- Strong desire for accuracy, a concern for detail.
- Creative and self-motivated.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Experience working with healthcare claims and claims analysis a plus.
- Requires knowledge of medical date warehouse software, general medical and pharmacy protocol and practice, and employee insurance benefits.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in medical or financial data analysis. Preferred: 5-7 Years of experience in medical financial analysis.
SPECFIC TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Proficient in Windows based environment, particularly Microsoft Excel, Access, Word. Working knowledge of Information Systems including analytic tools. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communication skill. Previous managed care experience important
